I studied photography and media in Rome, Italy, back in the old days of film, hoping to be a photo journalist. Following an internship at a press office, life took an unexpected turn and I ended up with a job in politics. Yes, Italian politics! No wonder after 5 years I left the job and the country...
Moving to London in 1998 opened my mind and inspired me to see more of the world: in 2001 I spent 6 months in Los Angeles shooting gigs on Sunset Strip; in 2004 I embraced digital and qualified as a PADI Digital Underwater Photography Instructor in Bali, working in and out of the waters of the Great Barrier Reef, Lanzarote and Zanzibar.
I moved back to London in 2009. While still shooting live music, events and portraits (I'm not keen on British waters somehow), I noticed the accessibility of DSLR cameras had created a new, bigger generation of photography enthusiasts, many with great potential and a natural eye for beauty. Sadly many were put off by obscure technical terms, greedy salesmen and snob photo pros with short lens complex.
Things needed to change. No more shiny new cameras resold on eBay without ever having left auto mode! In 2010 I began teaching DSLR photography at beginner and intermediate level through Red Cloud Photography Days. I also started leading tours and walks aimed at photography enthusiasts wanting to improve their skills, or just looking for an occasion to take their cameras out and spend time with a happy bunch of snappers.
Ultimately, to me photography is about capturing beauty, in any form. Colours. Shapes. Feelings. Motion. Sound. Someone's soul. Some place's soul. Fun. Love. Peace. Anger. Loneliness. If you can see beauty and I can help you capture it, that makes my day.
Currently I freelance as a photographer, tutor and guide. I still work for Red Cloud, for whoever needs me and for myself and I enjoy my job every day like it's the first. I keep learning something new every day and meeting amazing people, making some friends for life and watching some of my pupils move on to their own pro ventures.
As a photographer, I like to maintain a straightforward, laid back approach with my clients, aiming to put them at ease and let their personality shine through for me to capture. Please check the services page for more info.
And of course, I still love my music photography! Acts and events I've shot include The Libertines, Blur, The Strokes, Metallica, Kiss, Westlife, Marilyn Manson, Reading Festival, Download, Sonisphere, BST Hyde Park, Camden Crawl and Camden Rocks amongst others. Some of the images are available to buy as prints and downloads - for personal or editorial use - from the galleries section, browse and pick your poison!
